The Australia-China Trade Liaison Office has been established to promote trade, economic and technical co-operation between China and selected areas of Australia, especially Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra. ACTLO is headed by John Clark, former Director of the UK-China Trade Liaison Office, whose links with China date back to 1972 when he was appointed as the first Australian Trade Commissioner in the People's Republic of China. Inward investment promotion is a key element of economic planning for all Chinese regions. ACTLO can assist Chinese organisations by arranging visits, organising inward investment promotion conferences, providing interpreting and translation services, and arranging individual business appointments in a cost-effective manner. Close Personal Links with China: Since 1995 when he set up the UK-China Trade Liaison Office to strengthen trading links between the UK and Shandong Province, John Clark has led many trade missions to China and has developed important high-level contacts in key economic regions in Central and Eastern China. Links with UK and Southern Africa: Through its associates in the UK and South Africa, ACTLO can assist Chinese organisation and enterprises which are seeking to develop their trading links in Southern Africa, including the Kingdoms of Botswana, Lesotho, and Swaziland, as well as identifying potential partners for joint ventures in the region.
